Are you S.A.D?

I don’t know if you have heard of it but S.A.D stands for ‘seasonal affective disorder’ and sometimes I seriously feel like I have it.

Do you feel down or depressed in winter? Always tired? Like everything is harder? Want to eat everything in sight?

Seasonal affective disorder, or more commonly known as the winter blues, affects approximately 1 in 300 Australians and while we can’t really compare our winters to those in the more colder climates we can still sometimes feel the effects that our cold weather has on our bodies.

Here are some tips to beat the winter blues or S.A.D…

  • Move! Exercise. I know, it’s too cold to go for a walk. Instead, go to a gym or a friend’s house and release some endorphins.
  • Cook some cosy winter foods. Slow cooked lamb roasts, braised lamb shanks, porridges for breakfast.
  • Eat what’s in season. Rug up and go to your local farmer’s market (my personal fave thing to do in the winter) it’s good to get outside.
  • Snuggle up with loved ones and watch a funny movie.
  • Make the inside of your home/workplace warm and inviting. Light candles, make sure it’s nice and warm and if you have pets bring them in for extra snuggles.
  • And last but not least, just think it’s only xxx amount of time ’til summer comes back around!! woohoo!!

Now do you have any more tips to get through the colder months? Or do you actually like the colder months and why?

Let me know in the comments!
