I’ve been a hairstylist for the past 20 years and you could almost say my coaching career started years back as I’ve been (unintentionally) coaching my clients and passing on my own learnings over the chair. Having worked in the industry for 2 decades, I definitely know a thing or two about how women tick and what we need.
I wasn’t always so aligned with my purpose though…. in my early 20s I experienced severe anxiety, not just once but for a couple of years. And it could have crippled me, for a while it did. But eventually my anxiety set me on a path of change, growth, learning and personal development.
Nowadays I thank my anxiety for opening me up to a world of meditation, yoga, natural medicine, kinesiology, self-help, mentoring, farmers markets and SO. MUCH. MORE.
But I digress, let’s go back to where I was at before I went on that magic ride. In my 20s I was working hard AND partying hard.
Until suddenly I wasn’t.
My anxiety got so bad that I couldn’t work, drive or even be alone.
I remember once (when I was still driving) I took a wrong turn and ended up on the West Gate Freeway stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. My heart was beating out of my chest and I suddenly couldn’t focus. I felt as if I was no longer in my body, and it didn’t feel good!
These kinds of experiences became regular occurrences over the years… even when I gave up driving it started happening at home. Those scary and overwhelming feelings could strike me anywhere. I had daily panic attacks, fear, agoraphobia and I relied heavily on the people around me because I just couldn’t seem to function on my own.
Back then, nobody was talking about anxiety. I made sure to keep it mostly to myself, only my close friends and family really knew what was going on. As you can imagine, this was a really difficult time for me.
One day – I’d had enough. I wanted to feel normal again. I put on my research hat and started experimenting with things that were said to make anxiety better. I was drawn towards Natural Health and Alternative Therapies and so I sought out Practitioners, read books and tried anything I could to not feel so miserable and alone.
This journey I have been on has taught me how to overcome those anxious feelings, what I needed to change and implement in my life to get there and now I use these tools and all of my experience to help women like you who are feeling how I was back then. Stressed, anxious, unworthy and all of the things.....I was able to go from fast food eating, smoker and drinker to nutrition expert, yogi & meditator. I had a new support team including my gym, essential oils, a Naturopath and a Kinesiologist. It took a while but eventually I started to feel better. AND IF I CAN, SO CAN YOU!
You are probably thinking, but I hate the gym? And what on earth is a Kinesiologist? I know, prior to my experience with anxiety I was NOT into health and wellness either. But as I felt less anxious, I grew excited about the possibilities that lay ahead.
I’ve always been very interested in spirituality in one way or another and I spent many days in fairy shops as a child looking at crystals, cards and witchy books…so in hindsight this holistic work was always somewhere buried in the back of my mind (and heart).
Now, I like to look at my battles with anxiety as a blessing because it has brought me to where I am today…A life, mindset and wellness coach, essential oils educator with a passion to support women to feel their absolute best.
I believe in progress, not perfection and I believe every small step you take towards a better life is all you need to get where you need to go.
